Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s jersey will be retired, per a recent decision made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The iconic No. 7 shirt that Dhoni famously wore will never be given to another cricket player in the nation as an homage to the great wicketkeeper-batter. This comes after the BCCI decided to retire jersey number 10, which was worn by legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.
Other nations have also followed this custom; Australia retired Phillip Hughes’ jersey number, while New Zealand honored Daniel Vettori and Brendon McCullum in a like way.
