Cricket Australia reported unprecedented ticket sales for the Boxing Day Test against India

With Cricket Australia revealing record-breaking ticket sales for the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy frenzy appears to be at an all-time high. Sales for the first day of play on December 26 are three times higher than they were in the 2018–19 season, but sales for days 2-4 have increased by an astounding 5.5 times since India’s previous pre–COVID tour to Australia.

Boxing Day Test might be the decider between both teams

With 3.9% of ticket buyers currently coming from India, there is also a noticeable increase in interest from Indian tourists. In the previously stated series, which India won by winning two and the hosts only winning one Test match, the number was a pitiful 0.7%.

Joel Morrison, the Executive General Manager of CA’s Events & Operations division, repeated the same.

“The impending competition between Australia and India is greatly anticipated, as seen by the current ticket sales for the Border Gavaskar series

As anticipation for the upcoming summer heats up, tickets are selling quickly for all five Tests. Therefore, we urge fans to purchase their tickets as soon as possible to guarantee they don’t miss any of the action. Morrison, cited by India Today, “We also see strong sales from Australian and Indian fans, presenting a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the enduring connection between our two countries both on and off the pitch. A sizable contingent of travelling fans are expected to attend Tests throughout the summer.”

It will be interesting to see the fourth Test of the series, which is set to start on December 26, 2024, since Australia has an impressive record of winning 67 of the 116 Tests played at the MCG, but India has a respectable record there as of late.
