Prior to the 2025 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) season, Brandon King was traded from the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons to the Barbados Royals. The Falcons have signed left-arm pacer Obed McCoy and all-rounder Rahkeem Cornwall as part of the transaction.
King was the tournament’s top run scorer in the 2019 season and has amassed 1837 runs in the CPL thus far. In addition to having two seasons with 400 or more runs, he was voted Player of the Season in the 2022 CPL, where he helped lead the Jamaica Tallawahs to victory.
Following King’s departure, the Falcons signed Cornwall, who rejoins his home team after playing with the Barbados Royals for three seasons. In the history of the CPL, he has taken 35 wickets and amassed 1347 runs with an incredible strike rate of 150.
McCoy, a former player for the Barbados Royals and Saint Lucia Kings, joins Cornwall in the Falcons. The left-arm pacer’s best season occurred in 2022, when he took 15 wickets for the Royals, and he has 56 wickets in 52 CPL innings.
The St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots acquired Jason Holder, an experienced all-around player from the West Indies. Holder has been a member of the Barbados Royals since the beginning of the CPL and was instrumental in each of their championship runs. Sherfane Rutherford has joined the Royals, and the Patriots have also acquired Alick Athanaze, who played for the Royals in 2023 and 2024.
Athanaze participated in 19 games for the Royals, scoring 344 runs at a strike rate of 106.83 and an average of 22.93. After playing for the Patriots for the previous four seasons and the Guyana Amazon Warriors from 2018 to 2020, Rutherford will be joining his third CPL team.
The dates of the CPL 2025 are set for August 14–September 21. The organisers have made sure that there won’t be any schedule problems with international matches for the West Indies. The reigning champions, the Saint Lucia Kings, will compete in the event.
