Jason Holder, an all-rounder for the West Indies, has been selected to lead the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the 2025 Caribbean Premier League (CPL), which kicks off on August 15. Jason Holder 13-year affiliation with the Barbados Royals, whom he joined during the CPL’s debut season in 2013, comes to an end with this move, marking a huge shift.
Additionally, he captained the team throughout the 2014 and 2019 CPL championships, which he led the club to. Known for his cool-headed and collected leadership on the field, Jason Holder arrival is viewed as a new beginning for the Patriots, who finished the previous season with just one victory in ten games. The team will look to rebuild around Holder’s leadership and experience now that he is in control.
Having amassed 1169 runs and 97 wickets in 104 games, Jason Holder departs the Barbados Royals with a stellar record.
Alick Athanaze, a young player who has only played for the Barbados Royals in 2023 and 2024, is also included in the team. In 19 CPL games since making his debut for his country in 2023, Athanaze has amassed 344 runs at an average of 22.93 and a strike rate of 106.83, including one half-century.
This season, Sherfane Rutherford will play for his third CPL team. Rutherford played with the Guyana Amazon Warriors from 2018 to 2020 before joining the Patriots for the past four seasons.
Established players like Rilee Rossouw, Kyle Mayers, and Evin Lewis, who continue to be crucial to the team’s strategies, provide firepower in their batting order as well.
Warner Park in Basseterre will host the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots’ 2025 season opener versus the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons. The St. Lucia Kings, meanwhile, are the reigning champions going into the competition. As the Patriots try to turn things around, Holder’s presence in the middle order and seam attack should provide much-needed balance and tactical steadiness.
