In exchange for Jason Holder joining the St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots, the Barbados Royals have signed Sherfane Rutherford for the 2025 Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Alick Athanaze’s transfer from the Royals to the Patriots for the 2025 campaign has also been agreed upon by the two parties.
Rutherford, a potent striker and aggressive middle-order hitter, will play for his third CPL team after previously playing for the Patriots and the Guyana Amazon Warriors. His arrival gives the Royals’ batting lineup even more firepower as they aim to have a successful 2025 season.
Jason Holder leaves his home team in a historic move after an incredible tenure with the Barbados-based squad that began with the league’s first season in 2013 and included in championship victories with the Royals in 2014 and 2019.
Jason Holder, who has been a dependable leader and important member of the Royals for more than ten years, is ending an era with the transfer.
As part of these transfers, Alick Athanaze will be joining the Patriots. In the West Indies Breakout League, Athanaze was one of the Windward Islands Infernos’ most notable players. As the Patriots continue to assemble their team for the future, Athanaze’s arrival gives them depth and versatility.
Teams are allowed to negotiate trades and transfers prior to the actual draft, which is scheduled for next month, in accordance with CPL regulations.
Taking place in six Caribbean countries—Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, St. Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Trinidad & Tobago—the 2025 Caribbean Premier League will take place from August 14 to September 21.
