On Monday, the Madras High Court decided to hear the contempt of court petition of former Indian captain MS Dhoni against Tamil Nadu cadre IPS officer Sampath Kumar. The court will hear the motion on Thursday, June 15, as contempt of court cases are only heard on Thursdays.
In response to the IPS officer’s remarks about the INR 100 crore defamation suit Dhoni filed in 2013 for being named in the infamous IPL betting scandal, the latter filed the complaint against Dhoni.
According to reports, the Advocate General of Tamil Nadu, R. Shanmugasundaram, has permitted the 41-year-old to file his case petition. The Advocate General granted MS Dhoni permission after it was determined that Sampath Kumar’s remarks constituted scandalous court proceedings.
The betting and match-fixing bombshell was revealed in 2014, resulting in the suspension of several Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals players and franchises for the 2016 and 2017 IPL seasons.
MS Dhoni claimed his fifth IPL title recently.
