The Court of Appeal has banned Upul Tharanga's arrest during his return to Sri Lanka

Upul Tharanga, the chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket’s Selection Committee and a former cricket player, was spared imprisonment upon his return to Sri Lanka after the Court of Appeal granted an injunction on October 16. The appeal was filed in response to a Matale High Court order.

Notably, Upul Tharanga was not present in court as a witness in a match-fixing case, therefore the Matale High Court issued a warrant for his arrest on October 8.

The arrest order against Tharanga was obtained when he was in the United States, taking part in a franchise league event, the court was informed.

Justices M.T.M. Lafar and P. Kumararatnam made up the two-judge Court of Appeal panel, and they issued the ruling in response to a writ case that Tharanga himself submitted.

Sri Lanka will play the West Indies in the third Twenty20 International.

Sri Lanka is now engaged in a three-match Twenty20 International series with the West Indies. In the first two games, both teams have performed admirably. The first game was won by the West Indies, but Sri Lanka equalised the score in the second Twenty20 International.

With the series on the line, both teams will try to give their best performances in order to win the third and final Twenty20 International, which will take place on Thursday, October 17, at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium.

It is important to remember that Sri Lanka and the West Indies will face off in a three-game ODI series following the T20I series.
