In the Major League Cricket 2024 Challenger on July 26, the San Francisco Unicorns defeated the Texas Super Kings to advance to the championship match. As Fin Allen wowed with 101 off just 53, the unicorns put up a tough 200 on the board after being asked to bat first. Before Corey Anderson displayed his incredible athleticism to remove the South African in the fifth over, Devon Conway and Faf du Plessis were cruising towards the mark.
Carmi le Roux hit a back-of-a-length delivery that angled across Du Plessis and went a tad wide, allowing Texas to score 55 runs in just 4.1 overs. The Texas captain attempted to grab the ball and toed it in the direction of mid-off. Any other day, the ball would have easily passed over the fielder, but Anderson was able to analyse the situation, wait for the ideal moment to jump, and then extend his left hand to catch a stunning catch.
“That catch helped us to stall some of the momentum away from them. Faf has been playing well throughout the tournament, so moments like that will help us going further,” Anderson remarked following the game.

It was crucial to end the match during the powerplay: Faf du Plessis
Conway (62* off 38) was still undefeated, and the former captain of South Africa, who had scored 45 off 22, walked back. However, no other Texas hitter contributed a significant attack in the middle, and the needed run rate continued to rise. Although Joshua Tromp scored an incredible 56* off 36, it was insufficient as San Francisco won by a margin of 10 runs.

“We did a great job with the bat, and it was important to break the match in the powerplay, but we lost quick wickets in the middle overs. We did show a lot of fight in the back end, but we left too much in the end,” Du Plessis said following the game. “I thought 185 was a par score here.”
