Cooper Connolly out of Pakistan's T20Is due to a hand injury

All-rounder Cooper Connolly was ruled out of the forthcoming series against Pakistan due to a fractured left hand sustained during the third and final ODI at Perth Stadium, which has hindered Australia’s T20I preparations. The injury happened during Australia’s batting innings when they were soundly defeated by the Men in Green by eight wickets on Sunday.

When Connolly attempted a pull shot against pacer Muhammad Hasnain in the 17th over, he was cruelly hit on his glove. After only one more delivery, the 21-year-old was forced to retire injured despite his best efforts to continue.

His left hand’s fourth metacarpal fracture was discovered by follow-up scans, necessitating emergency medical intervention. According to Cricket Australia, Connolly will see a specialist in Perth on Monday to determine the exact nature of his injuries.

The injury to Cooper Connolly has caused the Perth Scorchers to worry.

After making his debut for his country during the September UK tour, the youthful all-rounder was being prepared as a possible star for the 2026 T20 World Cup. He is an important part of Australia’s limited-overs strategy because of his bat finishing skills and left-arm spin bowling.

With the Big Bash League starting on December 15, the injury also worries the Perth Scorchers. There is currently uncertainty about Connolly’s ability to play in Western Australia’s forthcoming Sheffield Shield games.

In the days ahead of the T20I series against Pakistan, Cricket Australia is anticipated to announce a replacement. Finding a player who can maybe take over the position Connolly offered the squad is the selection committee’s challenge.

In his short international career, he has participated in two Twenty20 Internationals against England and Scotland. In the meantime, Pakistan made history by winning their first bilateral ODI series in 22 years on Australian territory.
