We must work on our game and consider what we must do in the end: Harmanpreet Kaur

During the post-match presentation, Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of India, stated that better fielding efforts were required, acknowledging that the score posted was not acceptable.

The Indian women’s cricket team suffered a blow as they lost to Australia by six wickets in the second Twenty20 International, squaring the series at one wicket in a low-scoring thriller at the DY Patil Stadium. With Deepti Sharma making a noteworthy 31 runs, India, batting first, amassed a score of 130/8. India’s score was insufficient against the strong Australian team despite her combined efforts with the bat and the ball, which included a remarkable spell that claimed two wickets.

“The score was not enough on the board but our bowlers did really well and we took the game to the 19th over, but the way we fielded was filled with errors and we have to think about the areas we want to improve,” Harman was quoted by India Today as saying.

While praising Australia’s impressive bowling effort, Harmanpreet Kaur expressed displeasure at losing wickets. She maintained her optimism in the possibility of improvement in the decisive game despite the setback.

“When we were in the middle, we were thinking 150 would be a good total but we kept losing wickets and a few overs were bowled really well by Australia, but yeah, we need to improve and think about what we need to do in the final game,” said Harmanpreet Kaur.

Previously, Australia’s hitters took advantage of missed opportunities due to India’s fielding errors, which made their problems worse. Australia won because of a crucial 34-run undefeated innings by Ellyse Perry, who was playing in her 300th international match. Phoebe Litchfield contributed significantly as well, scoring a rapid eighteen runs without conceding a wicket. Her two critical fours in the penultimate over virtually ended the match for Australia.

Despite the loss, Harmanpreet Kaur expressed optimism in the young Indian team’s ability to grow going forward and praised their positive perspective.

It’s a good thing that we were getting those opportunities and grabbing wickets in the middle while bowling. Though these close games highlight areas for improvement, things would have been different if Shreyanaka had been on target in the 19th over.”

She said, “We have played these games a lot of times, but this time we have a few new faces, which highlights the team’s tenacity and growth potential. This young side is looking very positive and I’m sure they will keep improving.”
