The team gained a great deal of confidence from Shamar Joseph: Kraigg Brathwaite

Perhaps the most encouraging thing the West Indies took away from the first Test against Australia was Shamar Joseph’s outstanding debut. Choosing the appropriate players was difficult for the visitors because so many cricketers chose to play franchise cricket, but as it stands, Shamar Joseph’s selection has proven to be a winning one. The 24-year-old, who was batting at No. 11, scored 36 runs off of 41 deliveries in the first innings and went on to record a five-for on his debut to help the West Indies stay in the game in Adelaide.

Shamar’s memorable red-ball cricket debut surprised West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite as well. He stated that the pacer’s performance will instill a great deal of confidence in others ahead of the second Test at the Gabba, while acknowledging the disparity in skill between the two squads.

Kraigg Brathwaite continued by saying that Shamar Joseph’s outstanding debut performance didn’t surprise him because he had always had faith in his abilities.

“(Shamar’s) faith is astounding. It would be fantastic if all the males could have that. But when you watch him play his shots, you can tell he’s a really special man. He also gives the squad a lot of confidence. As for the batters, I just want them to go out there and have fun,” Brathwaite was cited by ESPNcricinfo.

“His international career is off to a great start, and the West Indies will benefit much from him in the future.” It did not surprise me. He definitely is something remarkable, in my opinion. And I was thrilled for him,” the thirty-one-year-old continued.

In addition to Shamar, Justin Greaves and Kavem Hodge also made their Test debuts against Australia in the opening Test. Captain Brathwaite was pleased with what he observed, despite the fact that neither of the cricket players was able to have any real influence. He felt that the players would acquire valuable experience playing against the world’s top-ranked Test squad.

“I believe that the guys should go out there and play so they can have a taste of what it’s like to play cricket internationally.” Playing against the best team in the world is fantastic because, after this, you pretty much know where you stand. Brathwaite expressed his satisfaction with the debutants’ performance.
