Despite an outstanding run with the Punjab Kings in the IPL, former India batter and well-known analyst Aakash Chopra recently explained why he believes Shashank Singh was left out of India’s Asia Cup 2025 roster. In the 2025 tournament, Shashank Singh scored 153.50 runs for his team in 14 innings. The 33-year-old hasn’t yet made his Indian debut, though.
Chopra listed the guys in front of Shashank Singh, who were all vying for the few middle-order spots available at the moment. The Chhattisgarh all-rounder’s inclusion in even the squad for the T20 World Cup next year is doubtful, the cricketer-turned-commentator acknowledged.
What location is it? Even though I adore Shashank Singh, how is he able to come? He is unable to attend.
“His number will arrive, but it cannot arrive so quickly due to the lack of space. Shivam Dube, if given the opportunity, will most likely start at No. 7, while Rinku Singh, a finisher, will be sitting out for the time being. Jitesh Sharma and Hardik Pandya are present. You’ll have to wait, Shashank. I like him, he’s got the skills, and he’s not exactly a twenty-two or twenty-five-year-old kid, but he’ll still have to wait. It’s 50/50 till the T20 World Cup. In a video posted to his YouTube account, Chopra said, “I don’t think his name can come that easily.”
Rahane will not be allowed to return: Chopra
The 47-year-old also made remarks regarding KL Rahul’s and Ajinkya Rahane’s prospects in T20Is and Test matches, respectively. The Agra native believed that the Indian squad had moved on from them and that the selectors already knew the path they wanted to take the team.
As of right moment, it appears that Rahane won’t be able to attend. It looks challenging. I’ll be completely honest. The Indian squad has taken a completely different approach. Therefore, it appears that he has no chance. It won’t be possible for him to go till the World Cup. Rahul won’t be able to join the T20I team either. Once more, the Indian team has begun to move in a completely new way, Chopra noted.
For the forthcoming Asia Cup, India has already selected their team, with Shubman Gill serving as vice-captain and Suryakumar Yadav as captain. Right now, it doesn’t appear likely that there will be a lot of shuffles in the selection of the team for the T20 World Cup the following year. Early in 2026, India and Sri Lanka will co-host the massive biannual event.
