V. Manikandan, a resident of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, has been taken into custody on suspicion of using a cricket bat to murder a Madurai construction worker. The 36-year-old, who lived on Pappampatti Road close to Sulur in Gandhinagar, was accused of killing Arumugam, also known as Sikkanthar, a resident of the Madurai district. The 35-year-old was from Sholavandan, Madurai, the Hindu said.
According to the police report, Manikandan had been living alone since he and his wife had split up. The dad had brought his daughter and son to see him during the summer break. According to reports, he set up a TV in a public space close to his home so that he and his children could watch the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
Arumugam arrived to witness the game while temporarily occupying the arena for building development. The 35-year-old allegedly reprimanded Manikandan’s daughter without cause. The two reportedly got into a fight as a result. Manikandan struck Arumugam’s head and face with a cricket bat, according to the police.
The Coimbatore man is arrested by Sulur Police for his offence.
According to the police statement, Arumugam died instantly because the impact was so severe. When the neighbours learnt about the occurrence, they informed the Sulur police. Without any delay, the police moved the deceased to a hospital so that a post-mortem could be performed.
Manikandan was arrested for his crime on Monday following the event. Following an exciting match between the Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals in the current IPL 2025, the incidence was reported. MI won their second game of the season by choking DC and scoring 12 runs.
MI reached 205 runs thanks to the outstanding batting performances of Ryan Rickleton, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Naman Dhir. Karun Nair’s 89(40) in reply let DC breeze through, but his dismissal signalled the start of a collapse. Due to some ingenuity in the field, MI defeated DC.
