CM Siddaramaiah lays foundation stone for an international cricket stadium in Tumakuru, Karnataka

On Monday, December 2, just 70 kilometres from Bengaluru, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah laid the groundwork for an international cricket stadium in Tumakuru. Even though Karnataka has plans to build international stadiums, Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium is the only one allowed to host all of the state’s international cricket matches.

According to CM Siddaramaiah, 50 acres of land have been set aside for the international stadium.

He believes that the new cricket ground will support the district’s sports development and aid in the expansion of Tumakuru’s economy.

“The Karnataka State Cricket Association has been granted 50 acres of land so they can build an international cricket stadium. This will enhance the Tumakuru district’s sporting advancements and economic expansion. In a message on his ‘X’ handle, Siddaramaiah stated, “I have given them instructions to finish the stadium’s construction as soon as possible and meet the expectations of the cricket fans.”

According to sources, the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) has given the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) 41 acres of land near Sorekunte on which the stadium will be constructed. The cutting-edge facility is anticipated to be finished in the next years and is likely to cost about ₹150 crore.

Mysore’s plan for a cricket stadium

In the meantime, another international stadium close to Mysore has been proposed by the Karnataka government. Earlier this year, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) received 20.8 acres of land from the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) to build a cricket stadium. According to the Chief Minister, the KSCA has also asked for land in Mysuru for a cricket stadium.

When he said, “We will provide land in Mysuru too,”

Notably, the Indian Premier League (IPL) games would not only take place in Bengaluru but also in the state’s tier-two towns, as previously stated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The BCCI president, Roger Binny, previously stated that, aside from the famous M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru, which has a seating capacity of 40,000, which is less than the other international stadiums in the cricket-mad nation, the matches in the lucrative league will be spread across smaller cities like Mysuru, Hubballi-Dharwad, and Belagavi.

To date, India has hosted international matches in an astounding 54 stadiums. India has more international venues than any other nation. When it comes to the number of international cricket venues, Australia and England are tied for second place. Each of them has 23 stadiums that have played host to international games.
