Defending winners Oval Invincibles add Chris Silverwood to their coaching staff for The Hundred 2024

Chris Silverwood has joined Oval Invincibles as their assistant coach for the upcoming The Hundred 2024 after resigning as head coach of Sri Lanka last month. In a thrilling final at Lord’s, the Invincibles defeated the Manchester Originals by a margin of 14 runs to win the title the previous year.

Sri Lanka had a few memorable moments under Chris Silverwood leadership, such as winning the 2022 T20 Asia Cup and finishing second in the 50-over Asia Cup the previous year.

Nevertheless, the Lankan Lions were eliminated in the first round of the T20 World Cup last month after suffering losses to Bangladesh and South Africa. Following his sudden withdrawal from the major tournament, Silverwood gave up his position as head coach.

The former England coach took Azhar Mahmood’s place and became an assistant coach under head coach Tom Moody’s leadership at the Invincibles, where they will play their first game on Tuesday, July 23, against Birmingham Phoenix. Earlier this year, Mahmood said goodbye to the Oval Invincibles in order to become Pakistan’s assistant coach. The other members of the men’s Oval Invincibles coaching staff are Matt Walker and Jim Troughton.

James Foster joins the support team at London Spirit

James Foster, a former England wicketkeeper-batter who was fired from his position as Northern Superchargers coach last year, has returned to The Hundred. At the London Spirit, he will take over for Paul Collingwood as one of Trevor Bayliss’ assistant coaches.

Two more assistant coaches have been appointed to the London Spirit’s women’s squad roster. Ali Maiden, the assistant coach for the Yorkshire men, and Marc Broom from Sunrisers joined the London Spirit support team as part of the recent adjustments.

This year saw one of the most well-known coaching appointments in the Hundred. In the men’s division, Foster was replaced as head coach of the Superchargers by former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff. On Friday, July 26, when the Superchargers play the Trent Rockets in Leeds, he will embark on his new trip.
