The greatest score in T20Is (Men’s or Women’s) was achieved by the host team, who reached a staggering 427/1 in 20 overs during their first innings. The most unexpected T20I match in history saw Chile captain Camila Valdes choose to field first after winning the toss.
In just 16.5 overs, Argentina‘s opening pair of Lucia Taylor and Albertina Galan put together a mind-blowing 350-run partnership. The former struck 27 fours before being removed for 169 off 84 balls. Galan, on the other hand, continued to bat till the very end and, with the help of 23 fours, reached an unbeaten total of 145 off 84 balls. At No. 3, Maria Castineiras started the game with a brilliant cameo of 40 runs in 16 balls while hitting seven fours. It’s interesting that throughout their entire innings, Argentina’s batters didn’t hit a single six.
Incredibly, 73 extras were bowled in the innings, including 64 no-balls, eight wides, and one bye. Florencia Martinez, one of the seven debutants for Chile in the game, gave up 52 runs per over. Constanza Oyarce, another bowler, finished with 92 runs from her four allotted overs. On the other hand, Emilia Toro only had three overs before she let up 83 runs. Esperanza Rubio was the most frugal bowler, allowing 57 runs in just four overs at an economy rate of 14.25.
The Chilean players had to gather themselves to bat following the nightmare bowling performance. Only one of their batters, Jessica Miranda, reached double digits; she also grabbed the lone wicket that fell in the Argentine innings. The incredible game ended in a 364-run loss for the visitors, giving Argentina a 1-0 series lead.
