‘He is trying to rush things’- Cheteshwar Pujara analyses Yashasvi Jaiswal’s approach in Border-Gavaskar Trophy

"He needs to give himself a bit more time, the way he is playing, he is trying to rush things, he is trying to play shots a bit more," he added.

'He is trying to rush things'- Cheteshwar Pujara analyses Yashasvi Jaiswal's approach in Border-Gavaskar Trophy'He is trying to rush things'- Cheteshwar Pujara analyses Yashasvi Jaiswal's approach in Border-Gavaskar Trophy

The current Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25 is causing the Indian hitters a lot of trouble. One batsman who has shown promise in 2024 is Yashasvi Jaiswal, although he hasn’t been as consistent as he was in his early Test matches following his heroics in Perth.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, one of India’s top Test batsmen this season, is experiencing some problems, which are showing up in a run of poor results.

Indian Gabba hero Cheteshwar Pujara, who starred in the 2020–2021 BGT series, is among the experts who have criticised him.

Given the way he is playing, he needs to give himself a little more time. He is attempting to play shots a little more and rush things. Pujara told Star Sports that he should only take shots if he is really certain about them, particularly in the first five to ten overs, since it appears that he is eager to score runs, wants to get off to a fast start, and wants to get those first fifteen to twenty runs as soon as possible.

You play the deliveries based on merit when you are an opener in Test cricket, rather than going out looking for the ball. Even if you are an aggressive player, like Virender Sehwag, you should only play shots when the ball is pitched in your zone, Pujara continued.

At an average of 52.48, Jaiswal has amassed 1312 runs in 27 innings in 2024, including three hundreds and seven half-centuries. The record for the most runs scored by an Indian hitter in a calendar year, held by Sachin Tendulkar, is just 250 runs away from him.
