Mark Chapman, a batsman for New Zealand, will also miss Saturday’s third and final ODI at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui after missing the second ODI against Pakistan in Hamilton due to a hamstring injury. He will continue to be replaced by Tim Seifert.
In the first ODI in Napier, Chapman sustained the injury while fielding. He had not healed enough for the last game of New Zealand’s home summer, according to an evaluation conducted during training on Friday.
Chapman opened the ODI series with a career-high 132 to help New Zealand win by 73 runs prior to his injury.
New Zealand took an insurmountable 2-0 lead in the three-match series after winning the second ODI by 84 runs as well.
Due to his performance in the T20I series, which New Zealand won 4-1, Seifert was called up. With 249 runs at a strike rate of 207.50, he was the top scorer and won Player of the Series.
He hasn’t participated in an ODI, though, in over five years. In 2019, he played his final 50-over match for New Zealand in Nelson against Sri Lanka. He has only participated in three ODIs overall.
The 23-year-old Canterbury batsman Rhys Mariu made his international debut by opening the batting with Nick Kelly after Ben Sears, the quick spinner, replaced Chapman for the second ODI with Seifert sitting out and Will Young not included in the starting XI. After Tom Latham broke his hand in training before the opening ODI, New Zealand was completely without him for the series.
