Temba Bavuma was unfazed and instead called it a great opportunity for young people. Rainbow Nation, generally known as South Africa (SA), will be able to start deciding on their team selections and strategy for the ICC (International Cricket Council) key showdown Champions Trophy 2025 by participating in the Pakistan ODI Tri-series. Curiously, cricket will once again feel the lost appeal of the tri-series format as the tournament hosts have chosen to play an ODI series at home to get ready for the big event.
The Proteas are currently playing the Kiwis in the second ODI, which is similar to how the first ODI concluded with New Zealand (NZ) soundly defeating Pakistan. It is significant that the game will begin on Monday, February 9 at Lahore’s renowned Gaddafi Stadium. However, Temba Bavuma, the South African captain, made the startling assertion on the eve of the game that
Compared to the World Cup, the Champions Trophy is more challenging.
“During the World Cup, you have time to evaluate the situation and take appropriate action. Though we expect to progress in the competition, this is not feasible in the Champions Trophy. At the press conference, Bavuma said, “Obviously, we want to win the Champions Trophy this time, but when you look at the 50-over World Cup, the format makes it more difficult for teams,” according to Sports Tak.

The tri-series would also help us acclimate to playing in Pakistan and acquire expertise that we can share with a wider audience,” he added. Additionally, it gives young players an opportunity to play in the future.

South Africa has chosen a lineup with some inexperience for the tri-nation ODI series. The main reason for this was that several top players were focused on the SA20 2025.

Temba Bavuma defended his team’s performance in the main event and the tri-series when speaking of the squad. He also talked about the need of seasoned players like Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj. Additionally, South Africa will kick off their Champions Trophy 2025 campaign against Afghanistan in Karachi on February 21.
“Shamsi and Maharaj will be very helpful to us because we are currently lacking spin resources for the tri-series,” Bavuma stated.
