Chamari Athapaththu, the captain of Sri Lanka, evaluated her team’s performance in the tournament’s last round-robin match.
Following their round-robin campaign in the current Women’s ODI Tri-Series, Sri Lanka Women placed second on the points table. On Sunday, May 11, they will play India Women in the final. At the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, the hosts will be coming off a 76-run loss to South Africa Women.
“After bowling exceptionally well for the first twenty-five overs, we suffered for the next twenty-five overs, lost a lot of catches, and struggled as a bowling unit. We paid for that. During the post-match presentation, Chamari Athapaththu stated, “I hope our batters perform similarly in the final as they did in the last two games.”
The batting all-rounder expressed her hope that both she and her team would play better in their next match against India at the same location.
We are unable to forecast the toss, thus we must adapt to these circumstances. There is no pressure. We need to give it our all. We are aware that India is a strong squad, but I want to give it my all in the championship match,” the left-hander continued.
Before coming back to hit her 18th half-century (52 off 57) in the format, Chamari Athapaththu gave up 70 runs in her 10-over quota (2/70) in the opening innings.
Nevertheless, a 112-run partnership between Annerie Dercksen (104 off 84) and Chloe Tryon (74 off 51) saved the Proteas’ ship in the first innings, therefore her overall performance was insufficient to guarantee victory. Later, the home team was completely destroyed by Tryon’s five-wicket haul (5/34 in eight overs, including a hat-trick).
In their third encounter of the tournament, Sri Lanka and India will square off at the Premadasa. Each team has triumphed in a match versus the other. India prevailed by nine wickets with 56 deliveries left in the first match, but Sri Lanka exacted revenge with five balls left, winning by three wickets.
