Charlie Cassell of Scotland surpasses Kagiso Rabada's record for highest figures on an ODI debut

Charlie Cassell, a pacer from Scotland, shattered Kagiso Rabada of South Africa’s long-standing record for the greatest stats on ODI debut. In a July 22 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 encounter in Dundee versus Oman, Cassell took seven wickets in just 5.4 overs while giving up 21 runs. In July 2015, in his debut against Bangladesh, he eclipsed Rabada’s six for sixteen record.

With Chris Sole out due to personal reasons, Charlie Cassell was able to earn a spot in the Scotland team.

After bowling the first two balls of his stint, Zeeshan Maqsood and Ayaan Khan had been hit by the pacer by the end of nine deliveries. Khalid Kail returned to the pavilion after the fourth delivery, despite the fact that the hat-trick ball did not produce any results. In the second over, Shoaib Khan was removed from the game, and Cassell claimed four wickets in nine balls while giving up no runs.

“You’ve recovered from a severe setback that kept you out for almost a year and a half due to that severe injury. The captain of Scotland, Richie Berrington, was cited as saying, “It’s amazing to watch your resilience in recovering and returning to the pitch, as well as the way you hold yourself.”

Scots will face Australia in three T20Is.

Scotland will host three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) starting on September 4, which is a significant series for Australia. The Australians will also play five ODIs and three T20Is against England while in the United Kingdom as part of the tour; the first T20I will start on September 11. Although Australia has sent several very strong players for the visit, it will be interesting to see if Cassell is included in the Scotland squad as preparations for the next series progress.
