Harmanpreet Kaur, captain of the Mumbai Indians, is thrilled to be playing in front of the home crowd, known as the “Paltan,” in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025. There will be eight matches this year, including the Eliminator and the Final, in Mumbai after there were none in the second edition.
“Many of my successful performances have taken place in Mumbai. In Mumbai, I have won numerous trophies. The opportunity to perform in front of our MI Paltan makes me very delighted.
At a news conference held in Mumbai on February 5 (Wednesday), Harmanpreet Kaur stated, “We truly missed them last year.”
The bowling coach of MI’s WPL team, Jhulan Goswami, was pleased with the league’s influence on women’s cricket in the nation.
“You can tell that the girls now want to play a decent brand of cricket and impress scouts to play in the WPL if you go to domestic cricket matches. I’ve been to places across the nation where you wouldn’t have been recognised before, but now people are curious about when the next WPL is. The 42-year-old, the top wicket-taker in Women’s ODI history, said, “The impact of the WPL is amazing.”
After missing out on winning back-to-back trophies, head coach Charlotte Edwards still wants to focus on the fundamentals of team building. It was regrettable that we lost by the smallest of margins. There is a lot of excitement for it this year, she added, “to continue building this team, keep improving, get back to CCI, and be in another final this year.”
The Mumbai Indians will take on the Delhi Capitals in their opening match of the third season of the Women’s Premier League on February 15, 2025, in Vadodara.
