For the first time in international cricket history, an undesirable record was set during Canada‘s match against Scotland in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2. Both Canadian openers were removed on the first two balls of their innings as a result of the incident.
The match took place at King City’s Maple Leaf North-West Ground and was the 81st League 2 cycle match. Scotland won the toss and Canada was put into bat. Brad Currie, a left-arm pacer from Scotland, set the record with the first delivery when he edged a good-length delivery straight to Mark Watt at first slip, dismissing opener Ali Nadeem for a duck.
Yuvraj Samra, who was positioned at the non-striker’s end, was caught short of his crease on the second ball. The opener was run out without coming into contact with a ball when Pargat Singh’s drive veered off Currie’s hand and onto the stumps. Samra was too far from the crease.
For the first time ever in international cricket across all formats, Canada lost both of their openers for zero runs on the first two deliveries of the innings.

Currie finished his opening spell with three wickets and contributed to Samra’s downfall as he continued to push through the Canadian batting order. With a score of 18 for 5, Canada was in danger of finishing below 50. However, the squad reached a respectable 184 before being bowled out in 48.1 overs thanks to wicketkeeper-batter Shreyas Movva’s 60, Jaskaran Singh’s 32, and Saad Bin Zafar’s 29.
With an undefeated 84 in response, Scotland’s George Munsey led the chase, while captain Richie Berrington added 64. Even though they lost a few wickets, Scotland managed to complete the goal in 41.5 overs and won by a commanding seven wickets with 49 balls remaining.
