Canada defeated Bahamas by seven wickets in the Americas Regional Final in Ontario, making them the 13th country to earn a spot in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. With the victory, Canada advanced to the main tournament, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, with their fifth straight victory in the four-team competition.
Regardless of the outcomes of the following two games, including one against Canada, the victory guaranteed the Nicholas Kirton-led team a top-of-the-table finish.
Canada is expected to participate in the biannual 20-over tournament for the second time.
India and Sri Lanka will co-host the tournament the following year. Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, the United States, and the West Indies are the other nations that have qualified in addition to the Asian powerhouses. Seven more countries—two from Europe, two from Africa, and three from the Asia-EAP—will join the previously named countries.
The USA had already ensured their birth by reaching the Super Eights of the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they defeated countries like the 2009 champions Pakistan, making Canada the favourites to advance. They won all of their games by wide scores, which was precisely what was anticipated of them.
They defeated Bermuda (Match 1) and the Bahamas (Match 6) by 110 runs and 10 wickets, respectively, in two of their most comprehensive victories. Their latest victory over the Bahamas was equally decisive. They chose to field first, and after chasing down the goal in just 5.3 overs, they bundled out the opposition on just 57 in 19.5 overs.
The three best players for Canada were Dilpreet Bajwa (36 off 14), Ansh Patel (2/7 in four overs), and Kaleem Sana (3/6 in four overs). If they defeat Bermuda in their tournament final on June 22 (1 AM Indian Standard Time) at the Maple Leaf North-West Ground in King City, they have an opportunity to go undefeated.
