Reports: Cameron Green likely to miss Border-Gavaskar Trophy and may have drastic surgery

Cameron Green, an all-rounder for Australia, might miss the whole Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which starts on November 22. It was anticipated that the 25-year-old would be back to full fitness by the first Test, but subsequently, there were rumors that he may sit out the first game of the series and play just as a batsman. According to the most recent information, he will probably have major surgery in New Zealand, which will keep him out of the India series for the whole duration.

In order to enable the team management move Steve Smith back to number four, he was even contemplated to be sent out to open the India series. Smith decided to start the inning after David Warner retired, but he hasn’t taken use of the chance and was anticipated to move down for the same reason. But with Green hurt, there’s still uncertainty about Australia’s starting lineup.

“It doesn’t look good for him to be ready for any time shortly after the first Test against India in Perth on November 22. According to a claim by well-known Australian journalist Peter Lalor, Green might not play this summer.

Australia’s selection dilemma for Cameron Green possible successor

In the unlikely event that he misses the entire series, extra pacers like Scott Boland and Michael Neser may be included in the starting lineup. But the management of the squad might also think about deploying an additional batter, namely Marcus Harris or Cameron Bancroft. Following Warner’s retirement, both were in the running, but Smith’s move to the top order hurt their prospects.

Smith is anticipated to return to number four, therefore the opening position is open once more and one of them may end up joining the squad. In particular, the Sheffield Shield will be crucial in helping Cricket Australia’s selectors decide on their final roster. Usman Khawaja will be the other opener in the meanwhile.
