Reports: Cameron Green will miss first Test against India

Cameron Green, Australia’s best all-rounder, is reportedly going to miss the first Test match between Australia and India, at the very least. The five-match Test series is scheduled to begin on November 22, 2024, with the West Test (new name for the Perth Test at the Optus Stadium).

The West Australian reports that the 25-year-old, who was sent for scans late last week after returning from the white-ball tour of England, is currently in Perth at the WACA with his side but is not in the starting XI against Queensland. To control his fatigue after having to bowl in all six of Australia’s games during their tour to the UK.

Cameron Green was left out of the second ODI and the third and final T20I in the recently concluded series.

Adam Zampa took his position for the fourth ODI, saying that he had experienced back pain following the end of the third.

It is almost certain that Green won’t participate in the opening game to give himself ample time to recover, even though there is no hard information regarding his precise health for the remaining of the series versus India.

Additional information from the Australia red-ball setup

It is unclear how Australia will handle the amount of work in the bowling department. Mitchell Marsh was expected to bowl a couple of overs in WA’s current match given Green’s absence. Marsh, meanwhile, has not received a single over of bowling from captain Sam Whiteman in the 55 overs that the home team has bowled thus far.

Nathan Lyon would presumably bear a greater burden as a result, to continue in this manner. It will be intriguing to observe how the three main pacers of the setup are distributed among the Australian management.

Mike Hussey is one of the people, per the same source, who believes that Whiteman and Cameron Bancroft should lead the field in order to claim the first two slots for the red-ball challenge against India.

While Josh Inglis impressed with a brilliant 122, Bancroft claimed a golden duck, but Whiteman did not disappoint, scoring a magnificent century to lead his team to a competitive 465 on the scoreboard.
