Due to low-grade side pain, star all-rounder Cameron Green will not play in the full ODI series against India. He will need to recover before Western Australia’s next Sheffield Shield match against South Australia begins on October 28.
In the team for the three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against India, which start on Sunday, October 19, at the Perth Stadium, Australia chose to replace Green with Marnus Labuschagne. In order to join Australia’s team, the right-handed batsman will take a plane from Adelaide following Saturday night’s Sheffield Shield game.
After undergoing back surgery last year, Cameron Green has only recently resumed bowling in competitive cricket.
He missed the T20I trip of New Zealand to play in Perth last week against New South Wales in the inaugural Shield round for Western Australia.
Despite being scheduled to bowl eight overs during the match, the Perth native only bowled four and claimed one wicket. Cricket Australia’s medical team refused to allow Green to bowl on consecutive days after Western Australia couldn’t bat long enough in their opening innings to allow him to recover for a full day in between four-over intervals.
When playing India in the ODIs, Cameron Green was not anticipated to bowl. Before being rested for the third game, he would have only participated in the first two. He was also planning to play in Sheffield Shield matches rather than the ensuing five-match T20I series.
Before facing India in their white-ball series, the Australians have been dealing with ailments. The services of captain Pat Cummins are already being missed. Additionally, Josh Inglis will not play in the first two games at the very least.
Adam Zampa is on paternity leave, thus he will not be playing in the Perth ODI. In addition, Alex Carey has chosen to participate in the Sheffield Shield game between Queensland and South Australia in Adelaide as part of his Ashes preparation. Additionally, the batsman-wicketkeeper will not play in the ODI series.
After a more than 12-month period of bad form that led to his dismissal from the ODI team, Labuschagne has returned with four hundreds in five domestic innings. The 31-year-old has amassed 1871 runs at an average of 34.65 from 66 One-Day Internationals, including two hundreds and 12 fifties.
