At the felicitation ceremony, CAB embarrassed by misspelling Mohammed Shami's name

On September 14, during an award ceremony organized by the board, The name that was displayed was “Shamit,” not “Mohammed Shami.” Social media users are circulating the same photo of Shami being honored with his misspelt name right behind him on the big screen. The 34-year-old received praise from the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) for his outstanding achievements at the 2023 ODI World Cup. His great runs propelled India to the tournament’s final match, which they ultimately lost to Australia.

It’s interesting to note that Shami’s ankle ailment prevented him from playing for India again. But he’s getting close to a return, and he recently disclosed that he wants to return in the best possible health.

“I know I haven’t been active in a while, so I’m trying hard to get back into the game soon. But I want to make sure there’s no pain when I get back. To ensure there is no discomfort, I need to improve my fitness,” Shami was cited by News18.

“It is better for me the stronger I return. Whether it’s against Bangladesh, New Zealand, or the Australia series, I don’t want to rush and run the danger of getting hurt again. Although I’ve already started bowling, I won’t risk anything until I’m fully recovered,” he continued.

In the meantime, two Test matches and three Twenty20 Internationals will pit India against Bangladesh in a multi-format series. Shami was left out of the BCCI’s first Test squad announcements against Bangladesh because he hasn’t fully recovered. Next month, during the three-match Test series at home against New Zealand, he is anticipated to return.
