Bumrah’s lack of intent cost India the game vs England: Herschelle Gibbs

Gibbs later explained in a response that he was actually talking to Jasprit Bumrah, despite the fact that many users initially thought the comment was meant at Jadeja.

The Indian cricket team lost the third Test match against England at Lord’s due to a lack of intent, according to former South African player Herschelle Gibbs. In pursuit of a 193 target, India’s top-order batsmen fell short. The squad lost by 22 runs, despite a valiant half-century from Ravindra Jadeja bringing them within striking distance.

Gibbs posted his evaluation of India’s performance on social media, scathingly criticising the team’s lack of purpose throughout the run chase.

Gibbs posted on X, “Came close in the end, but lack of intent cost India the game.”

Gibbs responded to one of the discussions in the same thread by saying, “Bumrah has the most runs in an over by a batsman in test cricket… where was that intent today?

When Gibbs said that India’s batting lacked intent, he was alluding to Bumrah’s record of 35 runs off Stuart Broad in the 2021–22 tour, which holds the mark for most runs in a single over in Test cricket.

But in Sunday’s third Test match against the Ben Stokes-led team at Lord’s, Bumrah was unable to duplicate those exploits.

After India lost by a slim margin of 22 runs while pursuing a small target of 193, captain Shubman Gill voiced his unhappiness. Gill expressed his pride in the team’s perseverance in spite of the defeat, although he thought they might have done a better job with the bat, particularly in the last session on Day 4.

Jadeja and India’s tail-enders put up a fierce fight. After India had fallen to 82 for 7, Jadeja played a critical knock and formed important partnerships with Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. A couple of 50-run partnerships from the top order would have probably ended the pursuit, Gill said.

The fourth Test is now scheduled to start on July 23 at Manchester’s Old Trafford. It’s important to note that the Three Lions are now ahead 2-1 in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
