Jasprit Bumrah says Gautam Gambhir follows a distinctly individual style

Jasprit Bumrah, the speed leader for India, has admitted that head coach Gautam Gambhir takes a very individualised approach. Ahead of India’s forthcoming five-match Test series against England, which kicks off on Friday at Headingley in Leeds, Bumrah provided insights into Gambhir’s teaching philosophy.

“Gautam Gambhir prefers not to address the team in a group setting and tends to step in only when necessary,” the right-arm fast bowler said.

The former India opener is navigating an intriguing stage in Indian cricket, Bumrah continued.

“He is a highly independent individual. He will speak with the person with whom he feels he should be interfering one-on-one. You know, when he has some ideas about something and people are moving in the same direction. Bumrah told Sky Sports, “I think he is handling an interesting phase in Indian cricket.”

The team has experienced various changes and is presently going through a transitional phase, according to Bumrah. The 31-year-old underlined that more patience and poise are required, particularly from the younger players.

Our crew was entirely different two tours ago, and it is currently undergoing a transformation. With the younger players, they will now need to be much more patient and composed. The players are pleasant and content, and he approaches things with great composure,” he said.

Jasprit Bumrah also disclosed that one of the main reasons he never thought about being captain was task management. Shubman Gill, who is leading one of the least experienced Indian teams to play in England, will captain India for the forthcoming tour.

“I spoke with the BCCI during the IPL about the workload in a five-match Test series going forward before Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired. I’ve had conversations with those who look after my back. After we decided that we needed to be a bit smarter, I called the BCCI and told them that I didn’t want to be considered for the leadership position since I wouldn’t be able to participate in every Test match,” Jasprit Bumrah said.
