Bumrah confirms availability for Asia Cup

The talismanic Jasprit Bumrah has allegedly declared his availability for the prestigious Asia Cup in Dubai, giving India a huge boost ahead of the event. The T20 format will be used for the competition, which is set to take place in the United Arab Emirates from September 9 to September 28. To name the squad, the selectors are anticipated to convene in Mumbai on Tuesday, August 19. They have been told by Bumrah that he is well and ready to compete in the continental tournament.

Bumrah recently played in India’s five-match Test series against England in the UK.

The Gujarat seamer only participated in three Test matches, though, since the management wanted to avoid overusing him and keep him healthy for upcoming assignments.

“Bumrah has let the selectors know that he is available for selection in the Asia Cup. India Today quoted a source as stating, “The selection committee will meet and discuss it when they meet next week.”

It’s interesting to note that since the 2024 T20 World Cup, Bumrah has not represented the Men in Blue in white-ball cricket. He was instrumental in India’s victory at the international competition. The Ahmedabad native took 15 wickets at an incredible average of 8.27 in eight games, earning him the title of Player of the Tournament. He had an amazing economy rate of 4.18.

Bumrah appeared to be in excellent form during the Test series against England, taking 14 wickets at an average of 26 in three games. But in the three games Bumrah played in the series, India lost all three.

A portion of supporters and analysts have also been criticising the 31-year-old for missing the fifth Test match at The Oval in London. India needed to win this game to tie the series and keep England from taking home the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, hence it was crucial. Mohammed Siraj threw his hand up and cast a spell of magic in the fourth innings to help the Asian giants win by six runs without Bumrah.

On September 10, India will play the United Arab Emirates in Dubai to kick up their Asia Cup 2025 campaign. The next two games for the Suryakumar Yadav-led team are scheduled for September 14 against Oman and September 19 against Pakistan.
