In the current Test match between South Africa and India at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Jasprit Bumrah produced yet another brilliant stint as South Africa batted first. With figures of 5 for 27 off only 14 overs, the outstanding Indian pacer helped the hosts conclude the Proteas innings in just over two sessions. This was Jasprit fifteenth five-wicket haul in Test cricket.
The Ahmedabad native tied the record for the second-highest amount of five-wicket hauls among active pace bowlers in Test match cricket with this fifer. In Test cricket, Bumrah now has the same number of fifers as Mitchell Starc, although the Australian has played 100 games to reach the milestone. In the 51st red-ball outing,
Bumrah reached there, demonstrating that he is nearly twice as fast.

Notably, Bumrah has surpassed the great Kapil Dev in the record book for the most five wickets taken by India in Test matches. After leading India to their first World Cup victory and retiring as a national hero, Kapil Dev amassed an incredible 23 five-wicket hauls in Test matches. The record set by the Haryana Hurricane is presently being surpassed by Bumrah.
In reference to the current Kolkata Test, the Proteas won the toss in their first game in India in six years and chose to bat first. Although they had a good start, the wickets continued to fall like a deck of cards when Bumrah broke the opening stand. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, two spinners, took one and two wickets, respectively, while Mohammed Siraj also claimed a few.
As Bumrah defeated Aiden Markram, Ryan Rickelton, Tony de Zorzi, Simon Harmer, and Keshav Maharaj in the first innings, the Temba Bavuma-led team was bowled out for 159 after 55 overs. At 8/0 after five overs, openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal are facing the South Africans as the Indians begin their first innings with the bat.
