Brendon McCullum will lead the white-ball team going forward, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) stated. In the 2023 ODI World Cup, the Jos Buttler-led team looked terrible, and although there were high expectations for them in the T20 World Cup, they were unable to make it to the final. Coach Matthew Mott quit shortly afterward, and Brendon was named in his place.
A few of the senior players for the England white-ball team have been left off the squad for the forthcoming Australia series, thus the team is currently undergoing surgery. One of them, Moeen Ali, chose to give up on his career as an international cricket player after he was unable to receive a call-up. He still thinks the England squad will succeed under McCullum, thus he expects them to recover.
“I believe Brendon’s experience, his playing style, and his having been there assist. If a coach tells you to “go do this,” but you never do, I believe it might be really challenging. More than anything, I think Jos will benefit much from Brendon’s energy. Jos has a lot on his plate between captaining, wicketkeeping, and batting. Brendon will, in my opinion, simply release the pressure and be able to lead the team on the field. Moeen told Sky Sports, “I think Brendon will be more in control.”
