Maharaja T20 Trophy 2024: Bengaluru Blasters and Hubli Tigers' historic Match 17 will be decided in three super overs

Maharaja Trophy 2024, the state league for Karnataka, has a match it can be proud of for years to come. The first Super Over match in the league, which debuted in 2022, took place on August 23, 2024, at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru between the Bengaluru Blasters and the Hubli Tigers. Three Super Overs were bowled to determine the winner of the 17th game of the 2024 season.

The Blasters had three wickets and needed just two runs in five deliveries to chase down the Tigers’ mark of 165.

Tigers tied the game in the final ball after giving up just two runs in five deliveries and taking the wicket.

Super Over 1

It all came down to Lavish Kaushal stopping the ten runs that the Blasters managed to score in the Super Over. He achieved this by giving up eight runs in the first five deliveries. Manish Pandey attempted to score a second run but was run out at the keeper’s end by Lavish, who converted a dropped catch into a run-out with the Tigers needing two runs off the penultimate ball. A second Super Over was likely while the scores were equal.

Super Over 2

The Tigers failed to hit a single boundary in the Super Over due to Gnaneshwar Naveen’s precise bowling. Manish Pandey scored two triples to help the Tigers score eight runs. After giving up a boundary off the opening delivery, Vidwath Kaverappa stood his ground for the Tigers, and the Blasters managed to score only four runs off the following five deliveries. Awaited was a Third Super Over.
