Black Caps head coach Garry Stead suggests the notion of split coaching, saying, "New Zealand Cricket and I are definitely talking about that as an option."

Garry Stead, the head coach of New Zealand, has suggested split coaching to the organization’s governing body. The 51-year-old is in the final year of his contract with New Zealand Cricket (NZC).

Interestingly, the forthcoming ODI World Cup in India will be the final assignment under his current contract. At this time, Stead said it is too soon to say whether he will stay in the same position because managing the workload of coaches in modern cricket has become challenging.

He does, however, aim to continue it if management decides to split coaching in the future. Garry Stead said that he is now in discussions with the cricket association and that a decision will be made soon.

The following cycle of World Test Championship matches is after my contract expires, so I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see how that develops over time and where New Zealand Cricket and I end up with negotiations about my future. It’s still too early to tell.

I believe it is time for us to separate and take a closer look. According to Gary Stead, who spoke with Sports keeda, “I think the modern game is becoming very, very demanding for players and coaches to try and sustain everything across that whole amount of time. New Zealand Cricket and I are definitely talking about that as an option.

It’s an amazing group to be a part of. Garry Stead

Under his leadership, the New Zealand team was able to win the first World Test Championship and go to the T20 World Cup 2021 finals. He recently said that it’s a great team to be a part of and has been incredibly successful during his time there.

The 51-year-old will next be traveling to Pakistan and the UAE with the team for a few white-ball series. Prior to that, he said that NZC was still working out details of the negotiations for his renewal.

“I think working with this group of guys will be excellent. A great team to be a part of. Thus, negotiations with New Zealand Cricket and I and when we get to about what that looks like will basically be all that remain,” Garry Stead continued.
