In 2025, Bangladesh has encountered many difficulties on and off the pitch. In addition to losing badly in the Champions Trophy, they have suffered a run of series losses against Zimbabwe, Pakistan, and the United Arab Emirates. With one game left in the tour, they have already lost the Test and ODI series in Sri Lanka, where their problems have not stopped.
Their batting coach, Muhammad Salahuddin, became tense when he responded angrily to rumours that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was looking for a new replacement. He was hired in November 2024 mostly to manage the batting department, but the team hasn’t performed well over the last nine months, therefore he has come under fire.
“As a coach for the Bangladeshi squad, my responsibilities are flexible. It has never made me feel egotistical.
The team will benefit if a better candidate steps in as batting coach. My father and grandfather do not own the Bangladesh squad. When I do poorly, I will receive criticism; when I perform well, I will receive praise. That’s the truth. According to ESPNcricinfo, Salahuddin stated during the pre-game press conference, “The main concern is whether I give 100% for my team, whether I am honest or not.”
“The team has a lot of grievances against me.”
The Bangla Tigers’ batting coach is primarily concerned about recent media claims that indicate he has unduly influenced team choices, including as player positions and selections. He has established solid, enduring working connections with a number of players and is well-known for his outstanding record in domestic cricket over the previous 20 years.
“I’ve been coaching for 27 to 28 years, and I’ve heard that the squad has a lot of grievances against me. I would be very interested in learning about those complaints. I would prefer to receive it in writing. You must present concrete proof. It will assist me in self-correction,” Salahuddin stated.
“I will probably make a change if I believe it is necessary for the team’s success. How will favouritism help me, because our team has been losing a lot?” he continued.
Internal problems within the Bangladeshi camp have come up during their tour of Sri Lanka before. Najmul Hossain Shanto resigned as Test captain last month, claiming that there were too many captains in the dressing room and causing confusion. At the moment, Mehidy Hasan Miraz captains the ODI team, and Litton Das leads the T20I squad.
