Ben Stokes talks candidly about his hip injury and upcoming World Cup return against South Africa, saying, "I thought I was done."

Ben Stokes, who was crucial to England’s victory in the 2019 World Cup final, is anticipated to participate in his first World Cup match for the defending champions in 2023 after sitting out the first three contests with a hip niggle.

Ben Stokes admitted that he thought his World Cup run was finished after becoming hurt ahead of the match against South Africa on Saturday, October 21. The star all-rounder and England’s strength and conditioning coach, Andy Mitchell, heard a strange sound during a workout in Guwahati prior to the competition. Ben Stokes had actually “ripped the fascia off my muscle,” as it turned out. Ben Stokes severe injury was ruled to be minor after additional scans, but England’s red-ball captain worried for the next 36 hours or so that his World Cup would finish without him participating in a single game.

“When I finished it at first, I believed I was done. since hearing a pop is undesirable. Thankfully, it wasn’t nearly as horrible as we had anticipated. We immediately put a program in place, and it worked out pretty nicely. It’s quite good because I’m physically present and available for selection right now. Obviously, having this minor ache before the tournament began has been annoying, but I’ve worked really hard to get to where I am now.

ESPNcricinfo cited Ben Stokes as stating, “I’m fairly certain that everything will be good.

“I’ve worked hard to regain the level of fitness that will allow me to go out and not hinder the squad. I’ve worked hard to get to this place where I feel like I can contribute as much as I can to the team without having to hide in the field or be unable to accomplish as much as I need to,” the left-handed batter continued.

After experiencing a huge shock against Afghanistan in their previous game, England will try to get their campaign back on track. Additionally, the Proteas just suffered an unexpected loss to the Netherlands. The England vs. South Africa game will take place in Mumbai.
