Ben Stokes is still not fully fit and will likely miss the match against Bangladesh in the ODI World Cup 2023.

The ongoing ODI World Cup 2023's opening match between England and New Zealand was played without Ben Stokes last week.

Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes, who reversed course on his ODI retirement to compete in the current 50-over World Cup in India, is currently dealing with a left hip ache that will likely keep him out of action for two games in a row.

Last week in Ahmedabad, England’s season began with a crushing defeat at the hands of New Zealand. In a match that Ben Stokes missed because to his injury, the defending champions were defeated by nine wickets. The England captain Jos Buttler predicted that the star all-rounder is likely going to miss Tuesday’s pivotal match against Bangladesh in Dharamsala, despite the fact that he returned to the nets on Sunday and appeared much better at ease on Monday.

It’s encouraging to see him back in the nets and progressing toward full health, but Buttler predicted that he wouldn’t play tomorrow.

For England’s third match in the major tournament against Afghanistan in Delhi on Sunday, Ben Stokes might make a comeback.

Jos Buttler said of the idea of selecting an additional seamer to face Bangladesh: “It’s definitely an option.”

One of the Indian grounds that helps seam bowlers is the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. The match between Afghanistan and Bangladesh was an exception, though, as the slow pitch greatly favored the spinners. The pitch would be brand-new for the ODI World Cup 2023 match between England and Bangladesh, and Buttler anticipated some pace and bounce. Buttler stated that there is room to add an extra seamer to the starting XI in the same vein.

It’s unquestionably a choice. I recently played here in the IPL, and the wicket can have some decent pace and bounce. We’ll have those discussions without a doubt, and the squad offers great possibilities for selecting different lineups with varied balances. We’ll take that into consideration, the talismanic wicketkeeper-batter continued.

With his big stature and capacity to swing the ball both ways, Reece Topley might be the ideal candidate. The left-arm seamer may move aside for Moeen Ali.
