Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes, the explosive all-rounder for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), has decided not to play in the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season in order to properly manage his workload and put his health first. The five-time IPL champion team has supported the English star’s choice, but they have not indicated whether or not they will release him. Sunday, November 26 is the cutoff day for franchises to announce player releases and retentions for the 2024 campaign. The Englishman can be kept until the 2025 Indian Premier League if the team captained by MS Dhoni chooses not to release him.

After the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India concluded in 2023, Stokes said that he will have knee surgery, a procedure he had put off. Because of this, his rehabilitation progress and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will determine when he can return.

Ben Stokes cost INR 16.25 crore (about US$ 1.98 million) at the IPL 2023 auction, making it the most expensive purchase made. He did, however, have a limited impact on the season because of a left knee injury he received during England’s February trip to New Zealand. The 32-year-old, who began the season as a specialist batsman, appeared in just two games, scoring just 15 runs and bowling just one over. Additionally, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming has stated that the team is prepared to hold off on using Ben Stokes for bowling responsibilities until he is totally healthy.

Ben Stokes, who had retired from the ODI format, made a noteworthy comeback at the World Cup despite his injury difficulties.

After scoring 304 runs at an average of 50.66 in six innings, including two half-centuries and a century, he was named the second-highest run scorer for the Jos Buttler-led team. He scored 64 against Australia, 108 against the Netherlands, and 84 against Pakistan, among other notable performances.

After England’s final match of the recently finished ODI World Cup, Stokes had stated, “I’ve put a lot of hard work in away from cricket to give myself the best chance of a quicker recovery and, with Christmas and everything coming up, the main thing for me is getting this knee right and being ready and raring to go for that Test series in India.”
