Ben Cutting, an Australian all-rounder, recently disclosed that he gets about “150 messages every day” pleading with him to rejoin the Indian Premier League (IPL). Cutting hasn’t had a long international career with Australia, but cricket fans still hold him in high regard after his spectacular performance in the 2016 IPL final.
He performed brilliantly in the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 2016 season. He took two vital wickets, including Chris Gayle’s, then slammed a scorching 39 off just 15 to help SRH win the IPL.
“If I load up my private messages on Instagram now, there’ll be 150 every day saying, ‘Can you make yourself available for the IPL as a replacement player?’ for any team that’s coming up against RCB,” Cutting was cited as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
“What was accomplished that evening… It is practically one of the world’s largest athletic events. I’ve always wanted to play for Australia, and I’m still sad that I was unable to participate in Test cricket. But that IPL final still tops my list of priorities,” he continued.
Ben Cutting disclosed that his heroics against RCB in the 2016 IPL final have earned him acclaim from numerous cricket gurus. He added that the importance of his effort has only increased over time because RCB is still vying for their maiden IPL championship.
“Social media has taken off this year for some reason. I believe that the more years pass and RCB has yet to win, the more significant that night becomes to the Hyderabadis. Time has gone by quickly. I knew even then that it would likely be the high point of my career,” Ben Cutting remarked.
I wish Watson hadn’t been the target: Ben Cutting
Ben Cutting entered the batting order in the sixteenth over of the 2016 IPL final and single-handedly swung the match in SRH’s favour. Including a 117-meter six off Shane Watson, he delivered a dazzling knock that lifted the team’s total from 147 to 208.
“I was aware that he was bowling at around 140 kmph, and I knew that my game would be perfectly suited to some fast bowling like that on that kind of pitch. I only hope Watto wasn’t the target! I adore the man. I considered him a hero as he rose through the ranks. “Seeing it happen that way against someone I still look up to as a hero on the pitch makes me feel bad,” Ben Cutting added.
