David Warner

Australia and England are scheduled to engage in cricket’s oldest rivalry, The Ashes 2023, beginning on June 16 and lasting for five weeks. Fans are anxiously anticipating the much-anticipated series between the two teams, as both are in sensational form prior to the five-match competition. However, if anyone enters the series under a great deal of strain, it is the Australian team’s star opener, David Warner.

Warner’s Test batting average has been in the 30s over the past two years, indicating that he has not been in the best of form. The southpaw will face a formidable opponent in England’s star seamer Stuart Broad, who troubled him during the 2019 Ashes. Warner, speaking about the difficulty prior to the series, stated that the seamer must first secure a place on the team.

“He must be designated before anyone else. I don’t really have any plans, so if he’s chosen, I’ll make adjustments when I’m out there. Hopefully, I will be able to come out and score and perform positively this time. I’ve been selected for a series of cricket matches. No one has ever discussed any situation with me. The Age quoted Warner as saying, “I’m just here to continue my decade-long career as an opening batter.”

David Warner averages 26 in England

Notably, during the 2019 Ashes, Stuart Broad dismissed David Warner seven times in ten innings, as the batsman scored 95 runs at an average of 9.50 and one half-century. It was also the worst average ever for an opening batsman in a five-match series.

In addition, the 36-year-old averages 26 with the bat in England and has seven fifty-plus scores. In his previous fifteen innings, he has only amassed one fifty-plus score, a score of 200 against South Africa on Christmas Day at MCG in 2022. Warner will have an excellent opportunity to prepare for the Ashes, as Australia will face India in the final of the World Test Championship on June 7 at the Oval in London.
