Beginning on Friday, December 6, the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide will host the second Test match between Australia and India. Australia added Tasmanian all-rounder Beau Webster to strengthen their team after losing the first Test by a resounding 295 runs in Perth.
Next week, the 30-year-old, who was called up for the first time for a Test match, will travel to Adelaide to join the team. In addition to continuing his purple patch this season, he was voted the Sheffield Shield Player of the Year last summer.
Mitchell Marsh had minor injuries during the match in Perth, thus Beau Webster has been brought to the team as a backup.
“(Marsh) He has been battling a couple of little niggles since the UK tour,” Australian skipper Pat Cummins had stated following the first Test failure.
He has ten days to rest and attempt to get things straight since he was a little sore at the end of this Test match (Perth). “We’ll observe his progress,” he continued.
In the event that Mitchell Marsh is unable to recover in time for the second Test, Webster may be given the chance to debut for his country. Webster, who has amassed 1,788 runs over the last two Sheffield Shield seasons, will be full of confidence and eager to try his hand at the top level of the game. His outstanding batting abilities in red-ball cricket are demonstrated by his five tons and nine half-centuries.
During the Sheffield Shield match between Tasmania and New South Wales, Webster recently displayed his versatility. In the two innings, he took five wickets while scoring 61 and 49 runs with the bat.
For this weekend’s match against India in Canberra, Jack Nisbett has been added to the Prime Minister’s XI in lieu of Jem Ryan, who suffered a foot injury over the weekend.
