Before the 2025 Indian Premier League, BCCI officials do not intend to budge from their decision to organise the major auction. Shah Rukh Khan and Kavya Maran, the co-owners of KKR and SRH, respectively, advocated for continuity during a meeting with the officials, citing its importance for fan loyalty, team building, and brand promotion.
Every five years, the concept of holding the massive auction was also put forth by a few other owners. They requested that the next big auction be moved to 2026, but reportedly, BCCI executives are not very open to their suggestions.
The decision was made to let the teams keep 6–8 players, including those acquired through RTM cards and retention. As everything is anticipated to be finished before the end of the month, the governing council is now working on settling the specifics of the number of retentions.
Parth Jindal, a co-owner of the Delhi Capitals, has stated that he is in favour of holding a mega-auction every three years. The future of the mega-auction was discussed during the discussion with BCCI officials, he continued, but Jindal thinks that fair play is essential for a competitive competition.
There was a discussion. There have been many who argue against holding a big auction altogether. That’s not my camp. It levels the playing field, in my opinion, and benefits everyone greatly. The IPL wouldn’t exist without it. The Telegraph cited Jindal as stating, “It makes it competitive.”

The Impact Player regulation was discussed at the meeting as well. Although it prevents all-rounders from developing, a few teams wanted to get rid of it. However, BCCI is probably going to keep it in place for the next season. When BCCI completes the retention rule, the specifics of each franchise’s budget rise will be made public. In the meantime, each franchise’s budget is probably going to grow.
