On March 1, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the richest cricket regulatory body in the world, will hold its special general meeting (SGM). The nomination of a new joint secretary to Devajit Saikia is said to be the goal of the meeting.
A new joint secretary will be appointed, as Saikia took over the role following the departure of Jay Shah, the recently appointed chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Other important positions in the administrative body are held by President Roger Binny, Vice-President Rajeev Shukla, and Treasurer Prabhtej Singh Bhatia.
The WPL, IPL commencement dates, and the Champions Trophy team were among the important choices that were considered at the previous meeting, which took place on January 12 and marked Saikia’s official appointment as the new secretary for the BCCI. Before this, Saikia, who is also an advocate, worked for the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) as an administrator.
The release stated, “Notice is hereby given for a Special General Meeting of the BCCI which will be held at 12:00 PM IST on March 1, 2025,
BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, to transact the business of Election and Induction of the Joint Secretary of BCCI.”
Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) member Sanjay Naik (West Zone), Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) chief Rohan Jaitley (North Zone), and Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Avishek Dalmiya (East Zone) are the State association members whose names are circulating for the positions.
The second SGM in less than two months will take place on January 12th, when Saikia was elected as the new secretary in lieu of Shah and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as the new treasurer. The two were elected in the meeting without any opposition. Rather of holding elections, this new regulation is being followed. This appears to be a new rule that the board will use when choosing its administrators.
