The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has told state units to “voluntarily forego their turn to host an ODI during the bilateral international season” before the ODI World Cup 2023. On October 5, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the 50-over World Cup will start with England playing New Zealand.
India, which is hosting the tournament, will play its first game on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai against Australia. Also, the games leading up to the main event will be played from September 29 to October 3.
A report says that BCCI secretary Jay Shah said he made a request to the state cricket groups during a meeting on June 26 in Mumbai. The meeting was about the upcoming World Cup. He said that the main event would be held in 12 places in six zones and that it was a great chance for the country to show the rest of the world how well it could organise things.
“First and foremost, I’d like to thank each and every one of you for coming to the meeting in Mumbai on June 26, 2023, to talk about the future ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and for taking an active role in it.
“As you all know, this prestigious event will be held in 12 different places in 6 different zones. From September 29 to October 3, there will be warm-up games for the main event, which will run from October 5 to November 19. It’s a great chance for us to show the world how good our organisation is,” the letter said, according to Sports Tak.
Zone division for the matches is as follows:
Ten different places in India will host the 2023 Cricket World Cup. The warm-up games will be played at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram and the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
India will play the winner of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023 being held in Zimbabwe at Thiruvananthapuram. At the same time, Rohit Sharma’s team and the reigning champions, England, will play a warm-up game at the Guwahati stadium. Also, Mohali, which held the semi-finals of the World Cup in 1996 and 2011, as well as Indore, Nagpur, Cuttack, and Raipur, would not be able to hold any games.
The Delhi & District Cricket Association and the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium are in the North Zone.
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association) is in the middle zone.
West Zone: Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Pune, which are all part of the Mumbai Cricket Association, Gujarat Cricket Association, and Maharashtra Cricket Association, respectively.
The Cricket Association of Bengal in Kolkata is in the East Zone.
The Assam Cricket Association in Guwahati is in the North East Zone.
The teams in the South Zone are the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association in Chennai, the Karnataka State Cricket Association in Bengaluru, the Hyderabad Cricket Association in Hyderabad, and the Kerala Cricket Association in Trivandrum.
