Reports: BCCI sets November 7 as deadline for WPL teams to submit retention list

The list of retained players for the Indian Premier League (IPL) teams was released on October 31. When the retention lists were announced, there was a great deal of excitement because it raised many heads that top players like Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer were let go.

On November 24 and 25, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the IPL 2025 super auction will then take place. In light of this rapid development, the Women’s Premier League (WPL) teams have been given a deadline by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) to submit their retention lists. Previously, the teams were instructed by the Indian board to submit the list by October 15.

But November 7, 2024 was added to the original date. After that, the board will hold a mini-auction, the date of which has not yet been set. It’s important to remember that a team may contain 18 players, including six foreign players. By the deadline set by the board, the Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, UP Warriorz, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Gujarat Giants teams must turn in their retention lists.

The purse sum for the upcoming WPL season has been raised by the BCCI.

In the first season, each team received 12 crore at the auction, and in the 2024 WPL, it was 13.5 crore. In the next season, the purse amount will increase to 15 crore. Additionally, to schedule women’s cricket worldwide, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has introduced the Future Tour Program (FTP).

Preventing franchise leagues from interfering with international matches is another important component of the scheme.

This means that starting in 2026, the lucrative Indian women’s cricket league would have a new window. The WPL will now take place in February instead of January starting in 2026.
