Bangladesh struggles with rioting, BCCI rejects the ICC's request to host the Women's T20 World Cup

Due to student protests, Bangladesh has seen extreme outrage. The high level of political tension in the country has caused the incumbent government to fall and been replaced by a new one. The country’s hosting of the forthcoming Women’s T20 World Cup in 2024 is in peril because the situation is still out of control. BCCI secretary Jay Shah denied the ICC’s plea for the BCCI to host the competition in India.

With almost 300 persons slain in ongoing political unrest, it is extremely doubtful that the major event—which was supposed to start in October—will take place. India will host the Women’s World Cup in 2025, Shah said in defence of his choice to not host the competition. The United Arab Emirates and Sri Lanka are two more possible locations for the international event that the ICC is thinking about.

“They (ICC) have enquired as to whether we will host the World Cup. I’ve told you straight up no. Not only will we be in the monsoon season next year, but we will also be hosting the Women’s ODI World Cup. Shah stated, “I don’t want to give any kind of signals that I want to hold World Cups consecutively,” as reported by The Hindu.

Bangladeshi riots had an impact on cricket.

Sheikh Hasina, the prime minister of Bangladesh, was forced to leave the nation due to the riots, and attacks on public property and celebrity homes also occurred. In addition, as soon as Bangladesh’s new government took office, nations including Australia, India, and England issued strong travel warnings.

Regarding the Bangladesh squad, they are in Pakistan for a two-match Test series, with the first test set to start in Rawalpindi on August 21. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided to postpone the trip in order to ensure the players’ safety due to the unrest in the nation.
