Following its Annual General Meeting (AGM), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) underwent a significant reorganisation, appointing key personnel in both team management and administration. In addition to Mithun Manhas being chosen without opposition as the next BCCI president and taking Roger Binny’s place, former Indian cricket players Pragyan Ojha and RP Singh have formally joined the senior men’s selection committee.
Wide-ranging choices were reaffirmed at the AGM, which was held in Mumbai. The addition of Ojha and Singh takes the place of departing selectors Subroto Banerjee (Central Zone) and S Sharath (South Zone), but Ajit Agarkar remains chairman of the senior men’s selection panel.
In order to support India’s up-and-coming talent, Sharath will now assume the role of head of the junior selection committee. In addition, Sulakshana Naik and Shravanti Naidu have joined Delhi’s Amita Sharma as the chairman of the women’s selection committee.
The new president of the BCCI is Mithun Manhas.
Manhas was appointed president, which is the main change at the administrative level. Rajeev Shukla was named vice-president, Devajit Saikia was named secretary, Prabhtej Singh Bhatia was named joint-secretary, and A Raghuram Bhat was named treasurer.
Singh and Ojha both bring a wealth of expertise to their new positions. Under MS Dhoni, RP Singh played a significant role in India’s victory in the 2007 T20 World Cup. He took 124 wickets in 10 T20Is, 58 ODIs, and 14 Test matches during his career. His most memorable IPL season occurred in 2009, when he helped the Deccan Chargers win the title and earned the Purple Cap with 23 wickets.
However, in 24 Test matches, Pragyan Ojha claimed 113 wickets, including a historic 10-wicket haul in Sachin Tendulkar’s final Test match at Wankhede in 2013. He was a reliable player in the IPL, finishing as the second-highest wicket-taker for the Deccan Chargers during their 2009 championship run. He also played for India in 18 ODIs and six T20Is. A significant IPL policy decision was also adopted by the AGM, stating that no U16 player will be allowed to play in the league until he has participated in at least one Ranji Trophy game for his state side.
