BCCI-Mohsin Naqvi clash: ICC moves to resolve trophy controversy

It is said that during the discussion, the BCCI brought up the matter of Naqvi’s possession of the Asia Cup trophy. A committee was established with the intention of ensuring that the Indian team obtains the trophy as soon as possible after a number of ICC members underlined the significance of both India and Pakistan in the cricketing economy.

According to reports, the International Cricket Council has made the first significant step toward resolving the continuing conflict between Asia Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi and the Board of Control for Cricket in India. On Friday, November 7, the supreme cricketing organization had a meeting in Dubai to talk over a number of important issues, including the notorious trophy row at the 2025 Asia Cup.

The official agenda did not include the deadlock over the Asia Cup trophy row. As a result, no minutes pertaining to the issue were taken. The purpose of the first meeting was to examine issues including the Olympics, Mithali Raj’s selection to the ICC Women’s Cricket Committee, and the expansion of the Women’s World Cup.

For those who are unaware, Naqvi’s offensive remarks regarding the cross-border tensions between the two countries caused Suryakumar Yadav & Co. to decline to collect the Asia Cup trophy from him at the conclusion of the final.

The BCCI had formally requested that the issue be resolved. However, the problem hasn’t been fixed yet.

The next Women’s World Cup installment, scheduled for 2029, will be expanded as a result of the summit. The number of individuals that flocked to the stadiums and those who watched the matches online was also disclosed in the media statement.

In an effort to build on the event’s success, the ICC Board decided to increase the number of teams from eight in 2025 to ten in the upcoming tournament. The event broke the record for tournament attendance for any women’s cricket event, drawing close to 300,000 spectators to the stadiums. With around 500 million viewers in India, the event also saw an increase in viewership and the setting of new records for on-screen audiences worldwide, according to an ICC news release.
