The official RCB celebrations ended last night, according to Indian Premier League (IPL) Chairman Arun Dhumal, and the league officials were not aware of any additional festivities occurring in Bengaluru. In the IPL 2025 final, which took place in Ahmedabad on June 3, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) to finally claim their first IPL championship after eighteen years.
However, a stampede that killed 11 people and injured several more during the win celebrations in Bengaluru changed what was supposed to be a moment of joy into a tragedy. Dhumal explained that all of the rituals and celebrations that the team and the IPL had formally approved had been finished the previous evening. A horrific number of people were killed as the unplanned and unofficial crowd gathering in Bengaluru to celebrate RCB’s historic victory descended into anarchy.
“The IPL concluded last night for the BCCI.
The ceremony we had last night was the culmination of whatever festivities were planned. We don’t know how this incidence happened at this time. We were unaware that such an event was occurring in Bengaluru,” Dhumal told India Today.
Together with thousands of supporters, the RCB team came to celebrate winning their first IPL championship. There was commotion as a result of the large audience, and many supporters were suffocated by the crowd. The stadium gates fell amid the confusion, injuring multiple persons.
The throng greatly outnumbered the security guards, making it challenging for the cops to maintain control of the situation despite their best efforts. Sadly, there were numerous fatalities and injuries as the triumph celebrations came to a tragic conclusion.
In response to the unfortunate circumstances, the RCB released an official statement.
“The terrible events that have been revealed by media reports of public gatherings held throughout Bengaluru in advance of the team’s arrival this afternoon cause us great distress. We place the highest priority on everyone’s safety and wellbeing,” the statement said.
“RCB expresses its deepest sympathies to the impacted families and laments the terrible death toll. As soon as we learnt about the problem, we immediately made changes to our program and complied with the recommendations and counsel of the local government. We implore all of our fans to exercise caution,” it continued.
